Jamille Matt came from the bench and believed to make Newport a 1-0 victory over Port Vale.
Matt goal means the Exiles are currently 17 games unbeaten in League 2 and only two points behind leaders Exeter.
Vale may count themselves fortunate to have 11 guys after James Gibbons slipped using a late night challenge going in at half-time and survived some heavy pressure.
Matt and Corey Whitely were introduced from the bench and combined to split the breakthrough.
Whitely jumped down the right wing, leaving Adam Crookes in his wake, before crossing the ball to score his first of the season after 77 minutes.
Padraig Amond saw his penalty saved by Scott Brown, diving although the Exiles striker was then dragged down into the box by Vale captain Leon Legge.
Legge hit the bar with a header in added time but Newport saw out the game.
